Lisa Orkisz Scardina is a writer and artist based in the Pacific Northwest.
She received a Bachelor’s degree in English from DePaul University in Chicago and then moved West to pursue a career working in non-profit organizations and to start a family with her photographer husband. She has a life-long love of words in all forms and balances a busy career in health care with her creative pursuits.

After raising three boys in Portland, Lisa and her husband bought a small apricot orchard at the end of the Oregon Trail, and she started to dedicate more time to her creative endeavors – writing and pursuing the lost Polish art of making pajanki, using dried straw from her orchard.
Lisa’s writing explores the intricacies of family and memory grounded in a strong sense of time and place, making connections and observations that are deeply heartfelt and honest.
